Cincinnati Bengals (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS, 0-1SU Road) will face Carolina Panthers (0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS, 0-1 SU Home). The Bengals defense bounced back in week 2 with a 15-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens at home. The defense was embarrased at New Engand in week 1. The Panthers are have abandoned the Matt Moore era as they are 0-2 to start the season and Carolina is entering the Jimmy Clausen era.
Bengals have two very good solid cover corners and the Panthers have very little depth at WR after Steve Smith. WIth a rookie making his first NFL start you can expect Carolina to run the ball with high percentage short passes which will eat up the game clock. Bengals LBs showed up and should be able to hold the short Panthers passing game in check. John Fox wants to win now but will have his first 15-25 offense plays scripted to limit the risk for his rookie QB.
Bengals added the high media attention WRs but Marvin Lewis knows the road to victory on the road is the power running game with Cedrick Benson. Carson Palmer has shown that he is content with very conservative play calling and will throw the ball away and punt and leave it in the hands of his defense.
Total opened at 40 with sharp money hitting the line hard moving it current 38 or 37.5 at most online sportsbooks. The Total probably will not climb back above 38 even with some public money on the Over. Carolina is still perceived as a running team with a good defense - even if the defense has no pass rush in the first 2 games.
Carolina 7-2 Under their last 9 games. Bengals 9-3 Under their last 12 games as a favorite.
