Jacksonville Jaguars Betting | 2009 NFL Betting Guide

The 2009 Jacksonville Jaguars have Jack De "Axe" Rio chopping up the old offensive line to get rid of the dead wood and bringing some new redwoods so they can get back to running the ball that saw the Jaguars drop to 18th in rushing in 2008 from 2nd in 2007. A lot of question marks for the Jaguars as they cleared house on the wide receivers and handed the keys to the offense to 205 lb RB Maurice Jones-Drew. New defensive coordinator brings in a new defensive scheme and a new secondary that will have sharps salivating at perceived betting value early in the season.

2008 Jacksonville Jaguars Key Stats

2008 Record: 5-11 (4th, AFC North)
Offensive Team Rank: 18th Rushing, 15th Passing, 24th Scoring
Defensive Team Rank: T13rd Rushing, 24th Passing, 21st Scoring
Top Offensive Player: RB Maurice Jones-Drew (824 rushing yards, 62 receptions, 14 TD)
Top Defensive Player: CB Rashean Mathis (40 tackles, 4 INT, 1 Sack)

Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Outlook:
The Jaguars were devastated on offensive line last year by season ending injuries that sapped their running game potential and led to 42 sacks on David Garrard. A rebuilt O-Line was top priority and free agent T Tra Thomas brings the goods as well as T Eugene Monroe (1st Round, Virginia) and T Eben Britton (2nd Round, Arizona). Garrard played as well as he could with constant penetration up the middle as both guard positions was a game of who is that guard. Could see a drop off in production in the 24th ranked scoring offense as the 2009 Jaguars rebuild their line and have a complete new set of receivers. Unknown depth behind RB Maurice Jones-Drew at RB and everyone is questioning his durability as a number 1 RB.

Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Outlook:
The Jacksonville Jaguars unarchived on defense last year by not being very good at stopping the run which was their key to success in 2007. Moreover, the pass rush could not bring consistent pressure last year. 2009 brings back a similar cast that new defensive coordinator hopes to squeeze more blood from the rock. The secondary which ranked 24th in passing in 2008 has some question marks as they brought in CB Brian Williams to bookend Rashean Mathis. The Jags play Indy, Arizona and Houston in the first 3 weeks and may look worse than they are.
