New York Giants Betting | 2009 NFL Betting Guide

The 2009 New York Giants enter they year with the same blue print that brought them to the Super Bowl in 2008 which is a strong defense and a punishing running game. Online sportsbooks have the NY Giants favored to win the always tough NFC East. Questions remain about a number 1receiving threat and thin LB depth. After the Plaxico Burress shooting incident Eli Manning and company lost 3 or 4 last regular season games and Eli failed to throw over 200 yards in passing any of those games.

2009 New York Giants Offensive Outlook

The Giants starting 5 offensive line is one of the top run blocking units in the league with Pro Bowlers O' Hara and Snee. Depth is a concern but the top 5 talent is there to make a another run for a top tier rushing game. RB Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw have the talent to both be 1000 yard rusher after the departure of Derrick Ward. FB Madison Hedgecock is a battering ram and opens up the holes in the short yardage situations. QB Eli Manning got his huge off season contract extension and will earn it with no #1 receiver to start the year. 1st round pick WR Hakeem Nicks has looked decent in preseason. The bottom line is that the Giants will run the ball consistently and should be effective as long as the starting OL stays healthy.

2009 New York Giants Defensive Outlook

The defensive line is 8 strong and will put opposing offensive lines through a meat grinder of pass rushing bodies. DL Chris Canty and DL Rocky Bernard bring extra experience and depth to an already powerful DL that will get back DL Osi Umenyiora who missed all 2008 with a knee injury. The LBs are thin and Antonio Pierce has been bothered by a foot injury all preseason. The Giants expect the initial run and pass pressure to grind down opponents and it has been successful in the past. The Giants were the 5th ranked scoring defense in 2008 and could be another top 5 defensive unit under new defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan.
