Washington Redskins Betting
The 2008 Washington Redskins expect to see more passing yardage under the West Coast offense brought in by new head coach Jim Zorn. Sportsbooks predict that the Washington Redskins will not make the playoffs in 2008 and win 7 regular season games. The Washington Redskins offense under head coach Joe Gibbs has been defined by power running. Washington's playoff hopes will rest upon how effectively the offensive unit under QB Jason Campbell can run the West Coast offense.
Washington Redskins Key Additions
WR Devin Thomas
WR Malcolm Kelly
TE Fred Davis
QB Colt Brennan
Washington Redskins Key Losses
WR Brandon Lloyd
WR Reche Caldwell
QB Mark Brunell
The Washington Redskins used their three 2nd round picks on receiving targets for QB Jason Campbell. WR Devin Thomas and WR Malcom Kelly will fight it out on the WR depth chart and may push WR Antwaan Randle El to the third or fourth on the depth chart. USC TE Fred Davis will allow Washington to play a 2 TE pass catching set that will offer maximum protection and create mismatches in the secondary. Clinton Portis has been a consistent producer if he has been healthy. Portis will benefit from the West Coast offense with more catches out of the backfield. The offense will be more consistent this year under 2nd starting QB Campbell if he can master the new offensive system.
The Washington defense was ranked 8th overall (360 ypg) last year and looks to be a stingy unit again in 2008. The Redskins defense added DE Jason Taylor DE Daniels tore his ACL in preseason. If Taylor is healthy after a sprained knee in preseason, the Redskins pass rush will improve along side DE Andre Carter. S LaRon Landry and MLB London Fletcher anchoring the middle of the defense.
NFL Betting Edge
The Washington Redskins went 9-7 last year making the playoffs winning 4 games down the stretch with Todd Collins at QB. This year the Redskins have another tough schedule facing some of the top offensive NFL teams (Cincinnati, Seattle, Giants, Pittsburgh and Cleveland). The Totals betting line may be inflated in expectation of more points under the West Coast offense. Sharp money will be watching the Under Total betting line until Campbell proves his ability to score under the west coast offense. The Redskins defense may be underrated like last year.
