Line: Packers -7.5

Even though the spread is not indicative this should be the best game of the weekend. Both teams are coming off disappointing first weeks and will be looking to turn things around. The Packers had a tough test against the 49ers while the Redskins suffered a disappointing loss to the Eagles at home in a game that they were the favorite. Both teams like to play at a fast tempo and have elite quarterbacks that are capable of taking a game over.

The Packers were able to move the ball against a dominant 49ers defense producing 23 first downs and 28 points overall. They have a lot to be encouraged about going forward. The play of rookie running back Eddie Lacy was very encouraging. After having a nonexistent running game for years it appears that they have found their man. Lacy carried 5 times for 26 yards on a go ahead touchdown drive in the third quarter. He adds a dimension that the Packers have not has in several years and has the ability to take some of the pressure off of Rogers. Rogers was only 2 for 8 on third down which is usually an area in which he excels so do not expect that to happen again this Sunday. Wide receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb each had seven catches for over 100 yards and a touchdown each. The matchup this week vs. Washington will not be as difficult. The Redskins do not apply the type of pressure at the line of scrimmage that San Francisco does.

Washington went up against an Eagles team on Monday night that seemed like they were destined for success. They were difficult to prepare for as nobody knew what to expect from Coach Chip Kelly’s offense. They won’t have the same preparation problem this weekend as the Packers have had the same coaching staff for years Quarterback Robert Griffin III erased any doubt as to his health and ability to perform on the big stage. He threw for over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns I his first action since blowing out his knee during a game in last season’s playoffs. He also threw 2 interceptions while showing the rust that is to be expected. He was off target on 11 passes which is a career high. They received a disappointing performance from second year running back Alfred Morris who gained only 45 yards on 12 carries and had a fumble lost. They will need a better balance in the run/pass game if they want to have a successful season.

This should be an interesting game between 2 offenses that can be prolific when they are going well. The winner of the game will likely be the team that is capable of getting some defensive stops, in particular in the 4th quarter.

Pick: Redskins +7.5
