2013 NFL Week 6 - Jaguars vs. Broncos Betting Odds Preview
With the current 26.5 spread we have one of the most lopsided spreads in NFL history and it set up an interesting bet for the weekend. The game is in Denver and they have been even more devastating at home then they are on the road. Peyton Manning is somehow having the best season of his career at an age when most football players have been retired for 10 years already. He has a full complement of weapons at his disposal. The defense has been dominant with the exception of last weeks shootout win vs. the Cowboys. Jacksonville has been the worst team in the NFL so far scoring a measly 51 points while allowing 163. They were close with The Rams for most of the game last week until St. Louis pulled away. They have been really bad so far this season so there is nowhere to go but up from here.
The Broncos have the best threesome of receivers in the league. Demarius Thomas is developing into one of the premier receivers in the league. He is your typical number one receiver and is capable of taking a game over in several ways. Eric Decker is a perfect number two receiver. He can play outside or in the slot and has elite speed that gets him separation from defenders and his great pass catching ability takes over from there. In the slot is arguably the greatest slot receiver of all time in Wes Welker. He honed his craft with Tom Brady for several years and now he gets to work with Manning. Welker is a first down machine that excels at creating yards after the catch. The only surprise this season has been the excellent play of Tight End Julius Thomas who has become a reliable blocker on running plays and a consistent red zone threat for Thomas on passing plays. The running back was by committee for the first few weeks but its seems like Knowshon Moreno has taken over the feature role. He has a tremendous burst once the ball is in his hands and he has multiple touchdowns on the season.
Last week marked the return of Justin Blackmon to the lineup for the Jaguars. He had been suspended for the first 4 games of the season. In week 5 he displayed the abilities that made him a first round pick with over a100 yards receiving and a touchdown catch. He can not make up for a lost season, however he is the type of player that could go out and catch 3 touchdowns in a game and propel his team to victory
In NFL history there have been 6 other occasions of big point spreads like this and in each instance the favorite has covered. There is no reason to think the same wont happen here.
