2013 NFL Week 7 - Vikings vs. Giants Betting Odds Preview
Two teams that have had incredibly disappointing seasons match up on Monday night. The Giants are still searching for their first win in what has been a horrible start to the season. Every NFL teams success begins and ultimately ends with the quarterback. Eli Manning has won two Superbowl’s and has performed at a Hall of Fame rate throughout his career, however he has been terrible this season. He leads the league in interceptions and at least half of them were on poor throws, not passes that were tipped or where the receiver ran the wrong route, far too many poor throws. The Vikings have dealt with multiple problems throughout the year and only have one win so far. They have had a revolving door at quarterback and running back Adrian Peterson has suffered a tremendous personal loss forcing the team to struggle so far. The good new is that unless there is a tie, one team will pick up a much needed win on Monday Night.
The Vikings started the season with former first round pick Christian Ponder at quarterback and he did not play well prior to injuring himself. His injury opened the door for former Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassell who played well in his first start. The team decided to sign released Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman and give him 3 million dollars guaranteed for the remainder of this season. So it comes as no surprise that he has been announced as the starter for this week’s game. He has been a 4000 yard passer in this league an nearly made the pro bowl last season. So the talent is certainly there, however he had a personal issue with Bucs coach Greg Schiano and it remains to be seen if he is an immature young kid or if Schiano is just difficult to deal with. Peterson played through the death of his 2 year old son last week and was underperformed. The Vikings trailed the entire game so the team went to more of a passing attack. You can expect a big game from A.P this weekend.
The Giants have had a lot of injuries to go on top of their poor play. Running back David Wilson had just begun to show signs of life when he suffered an injury that will keep him out for a few more weeks. Running Back Brandon Jacobs was signed out of desperation a few weeks back and he is likely out this week. The team may be forced to use veteran running back Peyton Hillis who was signed earlier this week. The team will likely be forced to rely on a passing game that has struggled mightily this season.
This is a tough game to call as both teams have struggled a lot. In situations like this the best play is to go with the home team.
