2014 NFL Week 12 - Seahawks vs. Cardinals Betting Odds Preview
If you looked at the schedule before the season started and had to pick which game would be the most interesting out of all the week 12 matchups it is highly doubtful that anyone outside of their fans would have picked Seattle vs. Arizona. If you were told that one of these teams would have the best record in the NFL almost everyone would have said it would be the Seahawks. Well this matchup is the most compelling game of the week and the Cardinals are the team with the best record in the league at 9-1. The Seahawks are 6-4 and are coming off a 24-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. They have been inconsistent this season and are struggling to keep up with their defending Superbowl champion expectations. Like most of the league they had a hard time stopping Chiefs running back Jamal Charles who carried 20 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns against a defense that has been underperforming all season long. Seattle has had multiple issues this season but quarterback Russell Wilson has not been among them as he has had a solid season. He went 20/32 for 178 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions as well as 3 carries for 50 yards. Running back Marshawn Lynch has been spectacular lately; he had 24 carries for 124 yards. They had a lead late I the game but the defense was unable to stop Charles on the game final drive when Knile Davis scored the winning touchdown.
In one of the oddest scoring games of the season the Cardinals jumped out to a two touchdown lead over the Lions in the first quarter of their game last week while the lions managed only 2 field goals, one of which occurred early in the second quarter. After that there was no more scoring and the game ended 14-6 as the Cardinals improved to 9-1 including 6-0 at home. They did this with Drew Stanton replacing an injured Carson Palmer at starting quarterback for the second time this season. The difference is that this time Palmer will not be coming back as he is out for the season with a knee injury and it will be Stanton’s job for the rest of the season. Rookie wide receiver John Brown may be emerging as Stanton’s top target. He led the team with 5 receptions for 69 yards last week.
The Cardinals are a team that is aggressive on both sides of the ball. They throw the ball down the field more than they throw check downs and they also blitz significantly more than they rush with a traditional 3 or 4 man front. The key will be how Seahawk offensive line and running backs help protect Wilson. It will also be up to their secondary to deal with the Cardinals aerial assault. Don’t be surprised if Wilson has to rush more often to keep his team on the field. It should be a great football game regardless of what type of football you like because this game has a little of everything.
