Line: Packers -3

In what many people consider to be a preview of the Superbowl, New England and Green Bay face off in Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. No team is hotter than the Patriots. They have now won 7 straight games and put up point totals of 43, 37, 27, 51, 43, 42, and 34 respectively. Tom Brady has found a comfort zone with his new cast of receivers and the running game seems to have a different star every week. When you combine the offense with a defense that gets better every week, you have the winning streak that the team is on. Both units were dominant in last weeks 34-9 win over the Lions. New England scored 24 first half points and moved the ball mostly via the pass after they had dominated with their rushing attack the previous week. During that game rookie running back Jonas Gray rushed for 201 yards on 37 carries and then did not play a single snap against the Lions despite being healthy (He did oversleep and miss a team meeting during the week). The leading rusher last weekend was Legarette Blount who played for the Patriots last season. He then signed with the Steelers but released earlier in the week after he expressed his displeasure over his playing time. He signed to join the Patriots again and had 12 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns in his first game back with the team. Brady was 38/53 for 349 yards and 2 touchdowns. Early in the season there were many questions about whether or not they had enough depth at the wide receiver position as well as those same questions about the health of Tight End Rob Gronkowski. Well Gronkowski has been the best tight end in the league over the last 2 months. Brandon Lafell has become Brady’s top target on the outside and Julian Edelman has reminded many Patriot fans of Wes Welker in the slot. The two receivers combined for 20 catches and 187 yards in last weeks win.

The Packers lost to the Saints in week 8 and then had their bye week. Since then they have won 3 straight games and they have combined to score 132 points in those games. Much of that success has come through the air attack led by quarterback Aaron Rogers. Rogers was 19/29 for 209 yards and two touchdowns in last weeks 24-21 win over the Vikings. It wasn’t the passing of Rogers that won the game for them; it was the brilliant running of running back Eddie Lacy. He had 25 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown. Late in the game after the Vikings closed to within 3 points Rogers insisted they keep handing the ball to Lacy and his faith was rewarded with a series of first down conversions for the win.

In what could be the best matchup in the NFL this season New England cornerbacks Darelle Revis and Brandon Browner will be matched up with Green bay superstar receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Whoever gets the better of these matchups will likely be the winner of the game.

Pick: Patriots +3
