Line: Colts -9.5

The 3-8 Redskins travel to Indianapolis to face the 7-4 Colts this week. The Redskins have decided to change quarterbacks by going with Colt McCoy over Robert Griffin III. The Redskins are 2-5 in their last 7 games and their 2 wins came with Colt McCoy as quarterback in weeks 7 and 8. McCoy came in after halftime of week 7 with the Redskins trailing the Titans. McCoy led a comeback in the second half and followed that up with a win in week 8 over the Dallas Cowboys. Griffin came back from injury in week 9 and the Redskins haven’t won since. The Colts with Andrew Luck have no issues at quarterback but have been struggling as of late going 2-2 in their last 4 games. The wins came against non-playoff teams Giants and Jaguars while the losses came against the Steelers and Patriots who are both in the playoff hunt.

The Redskins defense and running backs have played well this year but their passing game has been woefully inconsistent despite big names like Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. Last week Running back Alfred Morris ran for 125 yards and a touchdown. They lost 17-13 to the 49ers with Jackson and Garcon combining for 5 receptions and 73 yards. In their week 8 win over the Cowboys started by McCoy, Garcon and Jackson combined for 10 receptions for 183 yards. His return could be the spark this offense needs to put up big numbers help Garcon and Jackson get back to making the big plays they are used to making.

The 2 biggest issues for the Colts seem to be their defense and offensive line. The defense gave up 51 points to the Steelers in week 8 and 42 points in week 11 to the Patriots. Last week in a win against the lowly Jaguars, Luck was sacked 5 times, which led to 4 fumbles. Although they only gave up 3 points last week, the 3 prior games, the defense allowed an average of 526 yards and 39 points. Another issue for the Colts could be the running game as Ahmad Bradshaw was placed on the season ending injury reserve list. Although replacement Daniel Herron did a decent job gaining 65 yards on 12 carries, it was against the terrible Jaguars and he did fumble once. Against the much better Redskin defense, the Colts could struggle gaining yards on the ground.

This is a home game for the Colts and they just have too many weapons to lose at home but the 9.5 point spread is a lot and they simply haven’t played that well since Bradshaw’s injury. Colt McCoy will help the Redskins struggling offense put up points and keep them in the game. The Crowd will be intense as the Colts are still battling for a playoff spot and the redskins have their work cut out for them but the game will be closer than the spread suggests.

Pick: Redskins -9.5
