The 9-4 Philadelphia Eagles face off against the 9-4 Dallas Cowboys in a game that will go a long way in deciding first place in the NFC East. The Eagles have been consistent all season long on offense despite losing starting quarterback Nick Foles for the season to injury. The defense was a problem earlier in the season but they have turned it around in recent weeks. Last week they ran into the defending Superbowl champion Seahawks and they were given an example of what playoff intensity football is all about. Mark Sanchez has looked really strong since replacing Floes as the starting quarterback; however against a tough Seattle defense he looked ore like the quarterback the Jets gave up on a few years back. He finished the game 10/20 for a measly 96 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception. Running back Lesean McCoy had 17 carries for 50 yards against a tough run defense. The two leading receivers (Zac Ertz and Jordan Matthews ) had 2 catches each.
The Cowboys have slumped terribly in the month of December under head Coach Jason Garrett and many fans feared that more was to come as the calendar turned to its last month. The Cowboys on this team were unconcerned about the past and did their best to erase the ghosts of the past by thumping the Chicago Bears 21-28 last Thursday Night. Running back Demarco Murray looked like an MVP candidate earlier in the season and then slowed down a bit for a few games, however he has turned it on again lately and it looks like he may be the MVP of the league. He finished with 32 carries for 179 yards and a touchdown. He was bouncing runs outside as well as running between the tackles all game long. Quarterback Tony Romo was incredibly efficient, going 21/26 for 206 yards and a 3 passing touchdowns against no interceptions. Dez Bryant made several long gains with his 6 caches for 92 yards and Murray also chipped in big time in the passing game with 9 grabs for 49 yards. The Cowboys held a slim 14-7 halftime lead but then 21 unanswered 3rd quarter points gave them a lead for good.
The Eagles won the game against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving so if they are able to get the win they will hold the tiebreaker over the Cowboys. This makes in virtually a playoff game for both teams because there is no guarantee that the loser will even be guaranteed a playoff birth. Expect both teams to compete with playoff type intensity. The key to the game will be the play of Sanchez. Romo has a resume that has shown he can win games down the stretch. Sanchez has a history of throwing interceptions in big spots and this is his chance to redeem himself in the national spotlight. Both teams will look to establish the run and whatever team is successful will have a big advantage.
