2014 NFL Week 17 - Eagles vs. Giants Betting Odds Preview
The New York Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles in this week 17 matchup. The Giants are out of playoff contention due to the 7 game losing streak that they went through in the middle of the season. During that stretch many critics were calling for the jobs of both head coach Tom Coughlin, Offensive coordinator Bob Macadoo, and even 2 time Super Bowl quarterback Eli Manning. Now after a three game winning streak in which the offense has looked spectacular the jobs of all three appear safe and the only person that appears to be certain to lose their job is defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. The boost in the offense can almost single handily be attributed to rookie sensation Odell Beckham who has taken the league by storm and appears to be an elite receiver. He had 8 catches for 148 yards and 2 more touchdowns. This brings his touchdown total on the season to 11 and that is with missing the season’s first four games with a hamstring injury. Beckham and the offense put up 4 touchdowns on a Rams defense that had not allowed a touchdown in 3 games. The game was choppy and ugly with multiple fights throughout and the Giants were able to maintain their composure for the 37-27 win. Manning finished the game 25/32 passing for 391 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. Rookie running back had the best game of his career with 26 carries for 110 yards. Wide receiver Reuben Randle had a big day with 6 grabs for 132 yards.
The Eagles were looking like a Superbowl contender early in the season and were even in first place as recently as a week ago. Now after a loss to the Redskins they find themselves needing a win this week and a lot of help from other teams just to make the playoffs. The team has now lost 3 straight and after a fast start quarterback Mark Sanchez has shown that he is much more suited to a backup role. His stats were impressive going 37/50 for 374 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he threw yet another interception and lost a fumble. He now has 13 interceptions in just 7 games. LeSean McCoy had 22 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Zach Ertz had a big day with 15 catches for 115 yards. Rookie kicker Cody Parkey missed two field goals that were turned into scoring drives for the Redskins. The team committed a host of penalties including two roughing the passer penalties called in a span of four plays.
The Eagles have a very slim chance at making the playoffs but there is still that chance so they will be playing to win the game. The Giants do not have anything to play for in regards to the postseason, however they are fighting for their coaches job and will be looking to finish the season on a 4 game winning streak.
