2014 NFL Week 6 - Bengals vs. Panthers Betting Odds Preview

Line: Bengals -7

A pair of 3 win team face off on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati. The Bengals came into the season with a lot of hype based off of the amount of returning players that they had returning on a very successful team. They started out the season on a roll that saw them win their first three games. They ran into a Patriots team last Sunday night that had been mightily unimpressive in the early parts of the season and they proceeded to beat the Bengals in every aspect of the game during their 44-13 beating. The loss brought the Bengals overall record to 3-1. The Panthers had reduced expectations in the preseason because they appeared to have lost many players and not bothered to replace them. Gone was veteran wide receiver and franchise player Steve Smith as well as every other wide receiver that contributed to last season tremendous success. Quarterback Cam Newton has not had his best season as he battles inuries and a lack of familiarity with all of his receivers other than Tight End Greg Olsen. But the team had battled and after last weeks win over the Bears they find their record at 3-2.

The Bengals had started the season off playing at an elite level and they had built momentum heading into Monday Night where they were favorites on the road against the Patriots. They will be heading back home this week looking to get back on track. Prior to the New England game they were the best scoring defense in the league by allowing only 111 points per game. The 43 points allowed will likely serve as a wake up call for a defense that has all the pieces to be dominant and will likely be getting star linebacker Vontaze Burfict after he missed the last two games with a concussion. This is an important game for the Bengals; if they can win their records will go to 4-2 with 3 of the next 4 games at home. No matter where the games are they are going to have a hard time winning games if A.J Green is not able to return from a toe injury. It has bothered him all season long at it is questionable as to whether or not he will play this weekend.

The Panthers had a quick 2 game winning streak to start the season and then they lost 2 straight making last weeks win over the Bears. They will again be without star defensive end Greg Hardy who is suspended pending domestic violence charges and the defense has struggled to replace his pass rush ability. The offense is in more disarray than the defense as Cam Newton has basically been left with either unproven or unproductive players at all other skill positions. They went to a no huddle offense against the Bears last week and the faster tempo worked well so expect to see more of it this week. The best receiver Olsen and The Bengals have had a tough time defending tight ends so be on the lookout for a big game form him.

Pick: Bengals -7
