Two teams that are coming off losses will look to rebound in the Meadowlands on Monday night. The Giants had they bye last week so they will have had the taste of the 31-21 loss to the Cowboys in their mouths for over two weeks by the time they kick the ball off on Monday night. The loss to the Cowboys was their first game without injured star wide receiver Victor Cruz who is lost for the season with a knee injury. They weren’t dynamic on offense but they were consistent, at least in regards to the passing game. Reuben Randle steps into the Number 1 receiver position while rookie Odell Beckham assumes a much bigger role than expected. It remains to be seen how the bye week will affect the Giants. One thing for sure is that head coach Tom Coughlin is one of the best coaches in the league and you can bet that his staff has made adjustments during the bye week and that they will be ready for Monday night. The Colts started the season 0-2 and many around the league questioned whether or not their offensive system was suited for quarterback Andrew luck, then the team won 5 straight games in which their offense was fantastic and their defense was showing signs of being dramatically improved. They then ran into Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburg Steelers who dominated them in a 51-34 beat down. The offense did their part as Luck passed for 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. But the defense took several steps back allowing 522 yards passing and a preposterous 6 touchdown passes from Roethlisberger.
The Colts have one of the most well rounded offenses in the league even though they don’t have a true number 1 tailback. Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson present a good combination of power and speed that is enough to keep defenses honest and respect the running game. They lead the NFL in time of possession and will be looking to getting back to their balanced attack against the Giants. The Colts defense may get a boost with the return of free safety Laron Landry who is eligible to return from a 4 game suspension but it is uncertain if he will play. He did not report to the team until Thursday and it is unclear if he will be ready by Monday. The Colts have a bye next week and need this win to avoid sitting on a 2 game losing streak for 2 weeks.
The Giants are going to be without linebacker Jon Beason who is out for the season with a broken bone in his foot. The Giants are in the midst of a rough stretch of six games that still has Seattle, San Francisco, and the Cowboys left. They need to find a way to win this game at home. They will again be without running back Rashard Jennings who is suffering from a knee injury. Rookie Andre Williams will start in his place again but don’t be surprised to see more of veteran Peyton Hillis if he struggles.
