The Baltimore Orioles are one of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball; although the actual history of the franchise is about 15 to 20 years shorter than the history of many of the other older baseball teams. The franchise was founded in 1901 and has been in Baltimore since 1954, so they are definitely a presence in the area. They are currently a part of the American League East Division; a division they have been a part of for almost forty years now. When they are at home they wear white jerseys with orange lettering and when they are on the road they wear grey jerseys with orange lettering. They also have an alternate top that is black with orange lettering.

The current season for the Baltimore Orioles is much like all of the recent seasons have been; an overall downward trend with areas of sheer brilliance. They currently reside well out of either the division title or a wild card spot and indeed have a record that is many games below .500. It represents the larger picture of a franchise that has fallen on hard times and indeed while the Orioles do have a lot of good talent and a lot of promise for the future, this season just underlines the fact that the team has failed to deliver time and time again.
Baltimore Orioles - Team History
One of the reasons that the Baltimore Orioles have been a very storied franchise is because of all of the movement as well as all of the success that the team has had. They have had a lot of great players and in addition to the universal retiring of the number 42, they have also individuals retired six other jersey numbers. The team started out in 1901 as the Milwaukee Brewers and then moved to St. Louis to become the Browns in 1902. They stayed there for over 50 years, before eventually moving to Baltimore to become the Orioles; a title they have held for 53 years and counting.
Like many of the other older franchises, the Orioles have definitely had their share of success. As a team, they have won three World Series Titles; all of which have come in Baltimore (1966, 1970 and 1983). Additionally, they have seven American League Pennants to be proud of, six of which came after the team had relocated to Baltimore. They also have eight East Division titles all of which came in Baltimore.
Also like many of the other older franchises, the Baltimore Orioles have been home to a dynasty at some point in their career. More so than a dynasty, they are one of the few teams to have an era of such success that it was known as the Glory Years in Baltimore. It started in 1966, ended in 1983 and encompassed all three World Series titles, six of the seven pennants and seven of the eight Division titles. It also was a period of time encompassing a smaller period of time from 1966 to 1974 that represented the teams only dynasty; a dynasty that won two World Series titles, four pennants and five division titles.
