Update March 19th, 2012 - And then there were 16. With the exception of the Midwest Region, which suffered a few big upsets, the majority of the Sweet 16 were favorites going into each game. In the round of 64 there were only 2 major upsets, number two ranked Duke losing to fifteen ranked Lehigh and number two ranked Missouri losing to fifteen ranked Norfolk State. The round of 32 went as many would have bet, with the favorites in each game coming out on top in some blow outs and some nailbitters. The only big surprise yesterday was Georgetown losing to North Carolina State (not to be confused with the UNC Tarheels).
The battle to the Final Four is well underway and just a week to go. All four number one ranked teams are still in it, but we all know how rarely the number one rank wins the NCAA Championship - Only 3 times in the last 15 years!!
The NCAA Sweet 16 begins March 22nd with the first game pitting number one ranked Syracuse against four ranked Wisconsin.
