The Chargers start the year in KC on the road hoping to showcase their 1st pick RB Ryan Matthews against a KC defense that was ranked 30th in yards allowed but returns 8 of 11 starters on defense. San Diego won both match ups last year by 30 and 29 points and covering ATS. San Diego was a -5.5 road chalk last year in loud KC. The Chargers will be missing WR Vincent Jackson and LT Marcus McNeil. The offense is confident they can still put up points with the weapons they have against a bad Chiefs defense.
The Chiefs signed RB Thomas Jones to go with RB Jamaal Charles to give them a strong 1-2 running punch. The Chargers took the KC running game out with a big lead and Matt Cassel could not turn it around through the air. Chiefs will be attacking SD LT Brandyn Dombrowski who will be making his first start of his career.
Kansas City is a tough road trip with their crowd noise. Only one team in week 1 covered -4.5 road chalk and that was the Green Bay Packers who also have a top tier offense through the air. Sharp money has come in hard on the Chiefs moving line from open -5.5 to current -4.5 Chargers. Squares are solidly on the Chargers to cover. Home dogs 4-3 in week 1. Taking the square play and the big road chalk in the Chargers. The Chiefs defense has not improved enough and still have no faith in QB Cassel to put up good numbers.
