The 9th seeded Florida State Seminoles will take on the 3rd seeded Michigan Wolverines in the Elite Eight for the West region. While both teams had impressive wins in the Sweet Sixteen, the Seminoles tournament as a whole has been impressive. There was no let down after knocking off the # 1 seeded Xavier Muskateers. They easily defeated the 4th seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs 75-60 to make the Elite Eight for the third time in school history. This was the team’s third win in a row against a higher seeded team and put an end to the Bulldogs 16 game win streak. The Wolverines rebounded nicely after needing a buzzer beating three-pointer in the Sweet Sixteen to hold off the 6th seeded University of Houston. They blew out the 7th Seeded Texas A&M Aggies by a score of 99 to 72. The victory was their 12th in a row.

Florida State proved how deep their bench is as 11 different players score in the win over Gonzaga. Terance Mann was the only player with double digits as he finished with 18 points. As a team they shot 46.6 percent from the field including 6 of 20 from three-point range. They were outrebounded 42-40 and made 15 of their 22 free throw attempts. They also did a much better job of sharing the basketball as they recorded 19 assists to Gonzaga’s 7. Defensively, they recorded 9 blocks including 4 from Mfiondu Kabengele on their way to forcing 13 turnovers. They limited the Bulldogs to just 34 percent shooting including 5-20 from behind the arc.

Michagan’s offense had 5 different players score in double figures in the Sweet Sixteen. They were lead by Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman who had 24 points and 7 assists. As a team they shot very well making 62 percent of their field goals including 14 of 24 on three pointers. They also did a good job protecting the ball as they only had 7 turnovers. If there was a negative for the Wolverine’s offense, it is they attempted just 8 free throws. Defensively, they allowed the Aggies to shoot 48 percent from the field even while hitting just 3 of 15 three pointers. They had 12 steals including 6 from guard Zavier Simpson on their way to forcing 14 turnovers.

Florida State lost three of their last 4 games before this incredible run, including the first game of the ACC tournament. They play a rotation of 11 different players who all contribute on both ends of the floor and are playing with confidence. The Seminoles have easily covered the spread in all 3 of their victories thus far. Michigan survived a big scare from Houston and has since righted the ship. The Wolverines are favored by 4.5 points in this game and have covered the spread in 2 of their 3 games. They played very well on both sides of the ball in their blowout over the Aggies.
