The 4-4 Buffalo Bills travel to New York to take on the 5-3 Jets in this week’s Thursday night Matchup. Both teams are coming off big wins and this is the first time Rex Ryan will face his former team. The bills had 2 key players return from injury and contribute immediately in their 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Jets had key players suffer injuries in their 28-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tyrod Taylor and Sammy Watkins both returned from injuries to help the Bills snap a 2 game losing streak and ignite the offense. Taylor completed 11 of 12 passes 181 yards and a touchdown. His favorite target was Watkins who caught 8 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. The running game was even better as they rushed for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns. LeSean McCoy led the way with 16 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. Right behind him was Karlos Williams who 110 yards on 9 carries and a touchdown. Defensively, they were able to force Tannehill into 2 fumbles and had 2 sacks and 4 tackles for losses. They had a huge goal line stand when the Dolphins decided to go for it as opposed to kick a field goal when they were at the Bills 1 yard line with 2 seconds left in the first half.
The Jets escaped with a win despite allowing Jacksonville to have over 480 yards of offense while they only had 299 yards including 29 on the ground. The run game was completely shut down as they averaged only 1 yard per carry. Chris Ivory had 2 rushing touchdowns but had only 26 yards despite rushing the ball 23 times. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a good day as he threw for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns without throwing an interception. Eric Decker had 6 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown while Brandon Marshall had 4 catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, they gave up a lot of yards but they were able to sack Blake Bortles 6 times for a loss of 43 yards. They were vulnerable to the big play as they allowed 7 plays that went for over 20 yards including 4 plays that went for more than 30. They forced 4 turnovers, which included 2 interceptions and 2 recovered fumbles. Center Nick Mangold is questionable for this game after leaving last weeks game with a neck injury and kicker Nick Folk is out for at least 4 weeks after suffering a leg injury during warm-ups.
The Jets went 4-3-1 against the spread this year including going 2-2 at home. The Bills are 4-4 against the spread but are 2-1 on the Road. While Buffalo has key players returning from injury, New York could be without a few key players of their own. The Jets are at home for this matchup and are the favorites in this game but it was Buffalo who looked more impressive last week.
