The 6-5 Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Oakland to take on the 5-6 Raiders this week with both teams coming off important wins. The Chiefs overcame a 16-14 halftime deficit to hold on to the 30-22 victory of the Buffalo Bills. This was the 5th consecutive win for the Chiefs and their strong play of late has them in playoff contention even though they started the season 1-5. The Raiders scored a touchdown with less than 90 seconds remaining to secure the 24-21 win over the Tennessee Titans. With this win the Raiders snapped a 3 game losing streak.
Kansas City’s offense hasn’t committed a turnover in their last 5 games and have a chance to become the first team since New England in 2010 to go 6 consecutive games without a turnover. It starts with Alex Smith who had a very efficient game last week. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns. His favorite target was Jeremy Maclin who had 9 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. Running back Spencer Ware made the first start of his career replacing the injured Charcandrick West and did a fine job. He had 19 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the secondary had problems containing Sammy Watkins who had a huge game. They allowed Watkins to have 6 catches for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. They allowed over 400 yards of offense but recovered 2 fumbles and held the Bills scoreless in the 4th quarter squashing any chances at a comeback.
The Raiders made big plays on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball in their win over Tennessee. Derek Carr threw the winning touchdown with just over a minute remaining and the defense came up with a huge interception on the Titans last drive to seal the victory. Carr had a good game as he completed 24 of 37 passes for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns. He wasn’t intercepted and finished with a passer rating of 120.3. His favorite targets were Amari Cooper and Seth Roberts who each had over 100 receiving yards. Cooper had 7 catches for 115 yards while Roberts had 6 catches for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Defense had 2 interceptions and Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota completed less than half of his pass attempts. The defensive line shut the running game down as Tennessee only gained 44 yards on 18 carries.
Both teams are 6-5 against the spread this year and the Chiefs are 3-3 on the road while the Raiders are 2-3 at home. Oakland’s 5 victories this year is more wins than they had in any of the past 3 seasons and they currently possess the league’s 10th ranked offense. In the Chiefs current 5 game win streak, they have allowed an opponent to score more than 13 points only once. The Chiefs have a little extra motivation going into this game as ironically last year they visited Oakland on a 5 game win streak and lost.
