2015 NFL Week 17 - Jaguars vs. Texans Betting Odds Preview
The 5-10 Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Houston to take on the 8-7 Texans on Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville has been eliminated from the playoffs but the Texans have a chance to take the AFC South title with a victory this week after starting the year off at 1-4. Houston won their second game in a row last week with a dominating 34-6 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars lost for the 4th time in 5 games last week when they were beaten 38-27 by the New Orleans Saints.
Houston’s defense played great last week as they recovered 3 Titans fumbles and had an interception. They also limited Tennessee to only 264 yards of offense by completely shutting the running game down. The Titans rushed for 30 yards on 11 carries with the longest run going for 9 yards. J.J. Watt had a big day recording the team’s only sack and getting 1 of the 3 tackles for a loss. The Texans defense has given up 16 points the last 2 games. Offensively, Brandon Weeden was very efficient completing 15 of 24 passes for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 11 yards and another touchdown. His favorite target was DeAndre Hopkins who had 7 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown. Hopkins is having a monster year with over 1,400 yards and 11 touchdowns on 104 receptions. Alfred Blue led a balanced run game with 15 carries for 45 yards.
Jacksonville’s defense allowed the Saints to gain 547 yards of offense score 38 points. Drew Brees completed 25 passes for 412 yards and 3 touchdowns. They weren’t able to force any turnovers and allowed Tim Hightower to rush for 122 yards on 27 carries. They did sack Brees once and had 3 tackles for losses but allowed the Saints to score at least 1 touchdown in each quarter. Offensively, Blake Bortles had a big day by completing 27 of 35 passes for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns. He did throw 2 interceptions and was sacked twice for a loss of 21 yards. Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns each had nice games with Robinson catching 6 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown and Hurns catching 8 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns. They had issues with the run game, as they were only able to gain 65 yards on 15 carries.
Houston is 8-7 against the spread including 4-1 when they are the favorite. Jacksonville is 7-7-1 against the spread this year including 5-4-1 when they are the underdog. Houston is at home and has the added motivation of knowing if they win they have an excellent chance at winning the AFC South. The Texans are favored by 7 points and have won their last 2 games by 34 points. The crowd will be more than ready to see if the Texans can win its first division crown since they went back to back in 2011 and 2012.
