Line: Patriots -11.5

The 12-3 New England Patriots travel to Miami to take on the 5-10 Dolphins on Sunday afternoon in the last week of the regular season. New England snapped a 2 game win streak when it lost to the New York Jets last week 26-20. They also failed to clinch home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs but can do so with a win this week. Miami lost its 3rd game in a row and 4th in its last 5 when they were defeated 18-12 by the Indianapolis Colts. The Dolphins were eliminated from the playoffs 2 weeks ago and have gone 4-7 for interim coach Dan Snyder who is not guaranteed to be back as head coach next season.

Defensively, they had trouble with the rush as the Jets gained 143 yards on 27 carries. They were able to sack Ryan Fitzpatrick once and had 3 tackles for losses and recovered a fumble.

Miami couldn’t beat the Colts even though Indianapolis played with its 3rd string quarterback for the majority of the game after Matt Hasselbeck left in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. Ryan Tannehill completed 26 of 38 passes for 329 yards but was sacked 6 times for a loss of 50 yards. The Colts took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter when Tannehill was sacked in the end zone for a safety. He also failed to throw a touchdown and was intercepted once. His favorite target was Jarvis Landry who had 7 receptions for 111 yards. The dolphins struggled running the ball as they gained only 82 yards on 25 carries. Defensively, they did not force any turnovers and 2 sacks for a loss of 9 yards. They allowed 100 rushing yards including a 37-yard touchdown run by Frank Gore.

New England is 7-5 3 against the spread this year including 3-4 on the road. The Dolphins are 4-11 against the spread this year including 1-6 at home. Ryan Tannehill has been sacked 9 times the last 2 weeks and the Patriots are second in the league with 48 sacks. Miami has also struggled scoring the football the last 5 weeks as they have averaged only 16 points per game. New England is favored by 12 points despite being on the road and can still earn home field advantage with a win.
