2015 NFL Week 3 - Packers vs. Chiefs Betting Odds Preview

Line: Packers -7

The 1-1 Kansas City Chiefs travel to Green Bay to take on the 2-0 Packers in this weeks Monday night matchup. Both teams are coming off emotional games where the outcomes were very different. Green Bay extracted revenge on the Seahawks in a re-match of last years AFC championship game while the Chiefs literally gave the game away with a bad loss to the Broncos. Kansas City lost 31-24 by committing 5 turnovers including a fumble with 27 seconds left in the game, which was returned for the winning touchdown. The Packers beat Seattle 27-17 at Lambeau Field, which is the site where the Seahawks celebrated last year after earning a trip to the Super Bowl.

Aaron Rodgers was sharp in throwing for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns without throwing an interception. Rogers hasn’t thrown an interception in his last 18 home starts. Running back Eddie Lacy left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and his status for this week is still undecided. Backup James Starks filled in very nicely. He earned 95 yards on 20 carries and even caught 4 passes for another 11 yards. Wide receiver Randall Cobb also had a big day with 8 catches for 116 yards. Defensively they played solid by causing 2 turnovers and limiting Marshawn Lynch to only 41 yards on 15 carries. They had a total of 7 tackles for a loss with 2 coming from End B.J. Raji.

Very little went right for the Chiefs last week on both offense and defense. Quarterback Alex Smith was 16-25 with 2 interceptions and 0 touchdowns. His Quarterback rating was 7.4%. No receiver caught more that 6 yards The lone bright spot on offense was supposed to be Jamaal Charles who rushed for 125 and a touchdown but his second fumble turned his day from positive to a negative one as the Chiefs lost at the last second. They were a little better on the defensive end by limiting the Broncos to only 61 rushing yards and sacking Payton Manning 3 times. The Chiefs now have 8 sacks on the year and 3 belong to Justin Houston. The Packers will be without offensive lineman Bryan Baluga who is out with a knee injury, which could lead to protection issues for Rodgers. The defense did however let Manning throw for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns a week after he only threw for 175 yards and 0 touchdowns.

The Packers have won their last 10 games played at Lambeau Field. Since December of 2012 over an 18 game span, Aaron Rodgers has a home QBR rating of 124 and has thrown 43 touchdowns. The Packers will also have a little extra motivation as the last time these 2 teams met, the Chiefs ruined the Packers Chance at a perfect season by beating the then 13-0 Packers on December 18, 2011. Last week Green Bay got over a bad memory while the Chiefs created one.

Pick: Packers -7
