Line: Giants -7

The 1-3 San Francisco 49ers will travel to New Yok to take on the 2-2 Giants on Sunday night. These teams are headed in opposite directions with the Giants on a 2 game win streak and the 49ers on a 3 game losing streak. The Giants climbed back to a 500 record with impressive wins the last 2 weeks over both the Redskins and the Bills. The 49ers have plunged further with 3 consecutive losses but the last 2 have been especially bad as they were outscored 64-10 in losses to the Cardinals and Packers. Quarterback play is a big reason for these 2 teams going in different directions. Over the last 2 games Eli Manning has thrown for 490 yards and 5 touchdowns with only 1 interception. Conversely, Colin Kaepernick has thrown for 227 yards with 0 touchdowns and 5 interceptions over the same stretch.

Last week’s road win over the Bills was impressive both on the offensive and defensive end for the Giants. Defensively, they were able to make 6 tackles for a loss and limited the running game to only 55 yards on 24 carries. Buffalo only had 3 points after 3 quarters and this game was never in doubt. The defensive line was able to sack Tyrod Taylor twice which resulted in the loss of 16 yards. Also, they stopped the Bills twice on 4th down in Giants territory in the second half. Offensively, Eli Manning had another strong game throwing for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the 4th quarter he teamed up with Rashad Jennings for a 51 yard touchdown which put the game away. Manning also threw touchdown passes to Rueben Randle and Dwayne Harris as Odell Beckham had a quiet day with 5 catches for 38 yards. If there was a negative in this game for the Giants it would be the running game as they failed to rush for 100 yards and the offensive line allowed the Bills to make 6 tackles for losses.

Francisco has been terrible on both sides of the football for the last 3 games. Colin Kaeprenick hasn’t thrown a touchdown since week 2 and last week he was sacked 6 times which resulted in the loss of 41 yards. Kaepernick has now been sacked 14 times on the season. Against Green Bay he completed 13 out of 25 passes for 160 yards and had a passer rating of 55.4. The running game was also a failure as Carlos Hyde and Reggie bush combined to rush the ball 9 times for 21 yards. Defensively, they were a little better by recording 3 sacks on Aaron Rodgers but gave up 162 rushing yards and weren’t able to force any turnovers.

The Giants are 2-2 against the spread this year covering in each of the last 2 weeks. The 49ers are 1-3 against the spread and haven’t covered in the last 3 games. The Giants appear to be surging while the 49ers appear to be sinking.

Pick: Giants -7
