The 1-5 Baltimore Ravens travel to Arizona to take on the 4-2 Cardinals in this week’s Monday night matchup with both teams coming off bad losses in which their offenses struggled. The Ravens lost 25-20 to the San Francisco 49ers and couldn’t get the running game going. They only rushed for 77 yards on 22 carries a week after they rushed for 181 yards against the Browns. The Cardinals only scored 13 points in their 25-13 loss to the Steelers a week after they scored 42 points in a victory over the Lions.
The Ravens were pretty successful with the passing game as Joe Flacco threw for 343 yards and 2 touchdowns but he threw 2 interceptions which both lead to 49ers field goals. His favorite target was Steve Smith Sr. who had 7 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. Justin Forsett was held in check as he was only able to rush for 62 yards on 17 carries a week after he rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, they were very vulnerable to the big play as the 49ers had 3 passing plays go for at least 50 yards including a 76 yard touchdown pass to Torrey Smith. The Defensive line played a little better as they were able to sack Kaepernick 3 times and only gave up 65 rushing yards on 25 carries. The Ravens also didn’t help themselves as they failed to capitalize on a fumbled punt return and they missed a key field goal early in the 4th quarter which would have made it a 3 point game.
The Cardinals had over 470 yards of offense against the Steelers but were only able to manage 13 points due to costly turnovers. Carson Palmer completed 29 passes for 421 yards and touchdown but had 2 interceptions. His favorite target was John Brown who caught 10 passes for 196 yards. They Struggled mightily running the ball as they only were able to gain 55 yards on 20 carries. The offense had 3 turnovers in total and Pittsburgh was able to score a touchdown immediately after 2 of them. Defensively, they played well as they only gave up 310 yards of offense, they just couldn’t stop Martavius Bryant whom they allowed to catch 6 passes for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. They were only able to get 1 sack but they had 8 tackles for losses.
All of Baltimore’s losses have been decided by 6 points or less. Their only win of the season came against the Steelers who just beat the Cardinals by a dozen points last week. Baltimore has also won the last 4 meetings against the Cardinals. The Cardinals are heavy favorites in this game but the Ravens haven’t covered the spread yet this year as they are 0-5-1 so far. Although they had trouble finding the end zone last week, Carson Palmer still threw for over 420 yards and the Ravens defense has given up over 900 yards of offense in the last 2 weeks.
