The 6-0 Green Bay Packers travel to Denver to take on the 6-0 Broncos in this week’s Sunday night matchup. This is the 4th time in history that 2 undefeated teams have met this late in the season. Both teams will be rested as each had a bye week last week. In week 6, each team had trouble putting away their opponent. The Broncos needed overtime to beat the Cleveland Browns 23-20 while the Packers beat the Chargers 27-20 by stopping them on 4th and goal as time expired.
The Broncos are undefeated even with Peyton Manning playing the worst football of his career. Against the Chargers he went 26-48 for 290 yards and a touchdown. He also threw 3 interceptions and had a quarterback rating of 25.2. In his last 3 games, Manning has thrown only 2 touchdowns while throwing 7 interceptions. Several players had productive games against San Diego with Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas and Ronnie Hillman all having 100 yard games. Thomas had 111 receiving yards while Sanders had 109 and a touchdown. Hillman rushed for 111 yards which is more than the team average this season. The Broncos are actually ranked 30th in rushing with only 85 yards per game. This game was won by the defense which caused 3 turnovers including an interception by Aqib Talib which was returned 63 yards for a touchdown. They also had 4 sacks and 6 tackles for losses.
Green Bay’s defense held on just long enough to pull out the victory over the Chargers with that goal line stand in the final seconds. They allowed Philip Rivers to complete 43 passes for 503 yards and 2 touchdowns and couldn’t stop receiver Keenan Allen who had 14 receptions for 157 yards. Offensively, Aaron Rodgers led the way with 255 passing yards and 2 touchdowns without throwing an interception. The Packers had 6 different receivers that had a reception that went for at least 19 yards and running back James Starks had a 65 yard rushing touchdown. Starks status for this game is uncertain however as he suffered an ankle injury against San Diego. However, there is good news concerning injuries for the Packers as Davante Adams, B.J. Raji, Morgan Burnett and Nick Perry all returned to practice and could be available this week after missing the game against San Diego.
The Broncos have not beaten a team by 10 points all year and four of their six victories have been by 6 points or less. The Packers meanwhile have won by double digits in four of their six wins. The Packers are 5-1 against the spread this year while the Broncos are 4-1-1. While they share identical records and both have great defenses, Aaron Rodgers is having another great season and is in the MVP conversation as Payton Manning has really struggled the last couple of games. Even Vegas agrees by making Green Bay the favorites even though they are on the road facing an undefeated team.
