The 3-4 Eagles will travel to Dallas to play the 2-5 Cowboys in this week’s Sunday night Matchup. Both teams are coming off a loss in their last game where their offenses struggled to score points. The Eagles had a bye last week but lost in week 7 27-16 to the Carolina Panthers. Last week, the Cowboys lost 13-12 to the Seattle Seahawks with all of their points coming off field goals. Ironically this is still an important game as both teams still have a shot at making the playoffs despite have records below 500.
Not only did the cowboys fail to find the end zone, they also failed to gain even 100 passing yards as Matt Cassel was 13 of 25 for 97 yards and a quarterback rating of 41.The only bright spot offensively for Dallas was Darren Mcfadden, who was responsible for 113 of the teams 220 yards of total offense. He lead the team in rushing yards with 64 on 20 carries and receiving yards with 49 on 6 receptions catches for 49 yards. Mcfadden has now taken over the starting running back position from Joseph Randle who was waived this week for personal issues. Dez Bryant made his return from injury but was a non-factor with only 2 catches for 12 yards. Defensively they played better as they had 5 tackles for a loss and an interception. Even though they weren’t able to record a sack, they only gave up 1 touchdown and 1 play that went for more than 20 yards.
The Eagles struggled on offense in their loss to Carolina as Sam Bradford threw for 205 yards and 0 touchdowns while throwing an interception. His quarterback rating was 21.7 but he didn’t get much help from his offensive line as he was sacked 5 times for a loss of 33 yards. Ryan Matthews had a big day as he had 97 rushing yards on only 6 carries including a 63 yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Defensively, they were better as they forced Cam Newton into 3 interceptions but they had trouble stopping the running game. The Panthers rushed for 204 yards on only 33 carries, which is an average of more than 6 yards per carry. The defensive line had only 1 sack and 2 tackles for losses.
The Cowboys are 0-5 in their last 5 games, which have all been played without Tony Romo who will miss his 6th straight game. The Eagles have gone 3-2 in their last 5 games and have picked up their running game. Through the first 2 weeks they only averaged 35 rushing yards per game but have averaged 146 in their last 5. Philadelphia has won their last 5 games played in Dallas and the Cowboys have lost their last 4 games at home overall. The Eagles are 3-4 against the spread this year including going 2-1 at home. Dallas is 2-5 against the spread this year including 1-2 on the road.
