2016 NFL Playoff Odds - NFC Championship - Cardinals vs. Panthers Betting Odds Preview
It is likely that the favorite in SuperBowl 50 will be the winner of this weeks NFC championship contest between the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals. The two teams combined to go 28-4 during the regular season and were the 2 most consistent in the NFL.
The Panthers had what appeared on paper as the toughest matchup amongst division winners as it had to face the red hot Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round. They proceeded to dominate the Seahawks in the first half leading 31-0 at one point. The defense continued its dominance and the offense led by MVP candidate quarterback Cam Newton was clicking on all cylinders in the first half of their eventual 31-24 win. Running back Jonathan Stewart returned from a foot injury and scored 2 touchdowns. The team led the NFL with 500 points scored this season and will be up against what is arguably the leagues best all around defense. The team had one of the easier schedules in the league playing only 4 wiining teams and only 2 teams that won more than 9 games. The Panthers offense was without a big name playmaker all season long yet Panthers quarterbacks still led the league with 45 touchdown passes. The NFL’s most dominant linebacker in Luke Kuechly who is just as productive in coverage as he is stopping the run or rushing the passer leads the defense. Josh Norman emerged as one of the leagues top cornerback this season on a defense that was 6th overall. The team has won 12 straight games at home one more and they will represent the NFC in Superbowl 50.
The Cardinals are certainly battle tested after their thrilling 26-20 overtime victory over the Green bay Packers. The Cardinals found themselves up 20-13 late in the fourth quarter when Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers unleased a 44 yard “Hail Mary” pass into the end zone that was miraculously caught by receiver Jeff Janis and the Packers were able to force overtime. In the OT the Cardinals answered quickly as on the first play of the overtime veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald scampered 75 yards all the way down to the 5-yard line where he then caught another pass foe the game-winning touchdown. The game may have shown some of the Cardinals weakness’s however it also gave them the confidence that in a crucial situation they would be able to respond to adversity.
Palmer had and MVP type regular season and will have the opportunity to showcase his talents on the biggest stage if he can guide his team to another win. Both teams are strong at running back with Stewart for the Panthers and rookie David Johnson for the Cardinals. Johnson replaced an injured Chris Johnson a few weeks back and has outperformed his production. Both the Cardinals and Panthers have had their share of injuries and doubters all season long and thanks in large part to two of the NFL’s best defenses one of them will play in SuperBowl 50.
