Week 17 - New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins

The 13-2 New England Patriots will travel to Miami to take on the 10-5 Dolphins in this week 17 Sunday afternoon matchup. Both teams are coming off impressive wins last week and still have much to play for. The Patriots destroyed the New York Jets last week 41-3 and a victory this week would give them the top seed in the AFC and ensure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Miami hung on and beat the Buffalo Bills on the road 34-31 in overtime. With the Broncos losing to the Chiefs, Miami has now secured the wild card and has a chance to move from the 6th seed to the 5th seed. With a win over New England, the Dolphins would face the Houston Texans instead of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Defensively, they forced 4 turnovers with 3 interceptions and 1 recovered fumble. They allowed the Jets to gain just 247 yards and has 2 sacks for a loss of 8 yards. Over their last 5 games the Patriots defense has allowed opponents to average just 11 points per game.

Matt Moore has done a good job since taking over for Ryan Tannehill and that continued last week. He completed 16 of 30 passes for 233 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. His favorite target was DeVante Parker who had 85 yards and a touchdown on 4 receptions. They had a lot of success running the ball gaining 261 yards on 38 carries which is an average of 7 yards per rush. Jay Ajayi led the team with 206 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. This was the third time this season Ajayi has rushed for over 200 yards and has over 1,200 on the season. Defensively, they did not force a turnover but was able to sack Tyrod Taylor twice for a loss of 12 yards. They struggled against the run as Buffalo gained 272 yards on 49 carries despite having 13 tackles for losses. Over their last 5 games the Dolphins defense has allowed their opponents to score an average of 26 points per game.

New England has gone 10-5 against the spread this season including 9-5 as the favorite. Miami has gone 8-7 against the spread this season including 4-3 at home. The Patriots are favored by 10 points in this game despite being on the road. Both teams enter this game playing great as each has won 9 of their last 10 games.
