The 2-2 New York Giants travel to Green Bay to take on the 2-1 Packers on Sunday night. New York is coming off a 24-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and the Packers had a bye week. For the Giants, it was their second loss in a row after winning their first 2 games. Green Bay will have the benefit of an extra weeks rest after beating the Detroit Lions 34-27 in week 3. Since Mike McCarthy took over as head coach of the Packers in 2006 they are 8-2 after a bye week. There is history between these 2 head coaches as Ben Mcadoo was McCarthy’s assistant until 2013 before becoming the Giants offensive coordinator.
Eli Manning finished the game last week with a 20.3 quarterback rating after completing 25 of his 45 passes for 261 yards and 0 touchdowns. He threw 1 interception and running back Dwayne Harris lost a fumble for the teams 2 turnovers. His favorite target was Victor Cruz who had 5 catches for 50 yards. Odell Beckham Jr. only had 3 catches for 23 yards and has yet to catch a touchdown this season. Running back Orleans Dwarka racked up 48 yards on 12 carries and the teams only touchdown. The offense as a whole only had 1 play that went for over 20 yards. Defensively, they didn’t sack Sam Bradford but they did have an interception and had 4 tackles for a loss.
Aaron Rodgers had a monster game throwing for 205 yards and 4 touchdowns while also gaining 22 yards on the ground. Two of those touchdowns were thrown to Jordy Nelson who had 6 receptions for 101 yards. Nelson now has 4 touchdowns and 201 yards in only 3 games to start the season. Seven other Packer receivers had receptions including Davante Adams and Richard Rodgers who each found the end zone. Eddie Lacy had a nice game running the ball as he rushed for 103 yards on only 17 carries which is an average of over 6 yards per carry. Defensively, they allowed over 430 yards of offense and gave up 27 points. They also sacked Matthew Stafford 3 times for a loss of 17 yards and had an interception. They shut down the Lions running game allowing only 50 yards on 23 carries. They had no answer for Marvin Jones who had 6 catches for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns.
New York is 1-3 against the spread this year including 1-1 on the road. Green Bay is 1-2 against the spread this year including 1-2 as the favorite. Green Bay is favored by a touchdown in this game and will enjoy the benefit of home field advantage. Aaron Rodgers is coming off a game in which he threw 4 touchdowns while Eli Manning has thrown 4 touchdowns on the year. Rodgers is having a monster season so far throwing for 617 yards and 7 touchdowns with only 1 interception in 3 games.
