Week 6 - New York Jets vs. Arizona Cardinals

The 1-4 New York Jets travel to Arizona to take on the 2-3 Cardinals in this week’s Monday night matchup. The Jets suffered their third loss in a row last week to the Steelers by the score of 31-13 only scoring 33 points during that stretch. To add injury to insult, they lost Eric Decker for the season with a torn Rotator Cuff injury. Arizona stopped a 2 game losing streak with a 33-21 road victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The win was significant because Carson Palmer didn’t play last week after recovering from a concussion but is ready for this game. Carson has had a disappointing season so far with 5 interceptions and only 6 touchdowns.

Back up quarterback Drew Stanton did a nice job completing 11 of 28 passes for 124 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He was sacked 1 time for a loss of 8 yards. His favorite target was Larry Fitzgerald who had 6 catches for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. David Johnson had a monster game racking up 157 of the teams 172 rushing yards on 27 carries and 2 touchdowns. He was also second on the team in receiving yards with 28 on 3 catches. Defensively, they forced 3 turnover and sacked Blaine Gabbert 7 times for a loss of 27 yards. They allowed the 49ers to gain 151 yards on 36 carries but also had 9 tackles for losses. They did a good job limiting San Francisco to an average of 9 yards per reception.

New York did a good job running the ball as they gained 152 yards on just 30 carries. Matt Forte led the way with 96 yards on 22 carries while also leading the team in receiving yards with 59 on 5 catches. Quincy Enunwa led the team with 7 receptions gaining 54 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a mixed day completing 19 of his 35 passes for 189 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. The Interception put him at 10 for the season, which leads the NFL. Brandon Marshall had just 32 yards on 3 receptions. Nick Folk had a 22 yard first quarter field goal attempt blocked, which would have put the Jets on the scoreboard. Defensively, they sacked Andy Dalton 7 times for a loss of 42 yards and had 11 tackles for losses. They absolutely stopped the rush as Cincinnati gained 57 yards on 19 carries. They could not stop AJ Green who had 180 yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions.

The Jets have gone1-4 against the spread this year including 1-3 as the underdog. The Cardinals have gone 2-3 against the spread including 2-2 as the favorite. Arizona is favored by a touchdown in this contest and has home field advantage. The 2 head coaches have a history as Todd Bowles once played for Bruce Arians when Arians was the coach of Temple and Bowles was Safety.
