Running back Tyler Ervin hurt his knee in the first quarter and didn’t return. His status is questionable for this game.

Alex Smith is having a career year so far with personal bests of a 76 percent completion rate and a passer rating of 124. He was solid again last week completing 27 of 37 passes for 293 yards, 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions. Travis Kelce was his favorite target with 7 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown. Kareem Hunt continued building on his hot start with 101 rush yards on 21 carries. Hunt leads the league with 502 rushing yards and is second with 4 touchdowns. The Chiefs offense ranks third in the league with an average of 30.5 points per game. Defensively, they weren’t able to sack Kirk Cousins and had only 2 tackles for losses. Linebacker Justin Howard returned a fumble for a game-ending touchdown as Washington attempted a trick play as time was expiring. On the season they have allowed their opponents to score an average of 19 points and gain 375 yards per game.

Rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson was brilliant against the Titans finishing with a passer rating of 125. He completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts for 283 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also ran the ball 4 more times for 25 yards and another touchdown. His favorite target was DeAndre Hopkins who 10 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. The team also rushed for 173 yards with Lamar Miller leading the way with 75 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Defensively, they forced 5 turnovers with 4 interceptions and a recovered a fumble. . They limited the Titans to just 195 yards of total offense including just 109 in the air.

Houston will have home field advantage but are 1-point underdogs in this game. The Texans have gone 2-2 against the spread this season while the Chiefs have covered in all 4 of their victories. Deshaun Watson made history last week with his performance. He became the first rookie quarterback since Fran Tarkenton ion 1961 to throw 4 touchdowns and run for another in the same game. Kansas City leads the league with 163.5 rushing yards per game and Houston will have their hands full trying to contain Hunt. This should be a very competitive game between two teams who sit atop their respective divisions.
