The 4-6 Miami Dolphins will travel to New England to take on the 8-2 Patriots in this Sunday afternoon contest. Both teams extended streaks last week, which was good news for the Patriots and bad news for the Dolphins. New England won its sixth game in a row with a 33-8 victory over the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City. Tight end Rob Gronkowski missed the game due to illness and he is questionable for this game. During their six game win streak, they haven’t allowed an opponent to score more than 17 points. Miami lost its fourth game in a row last week 30-20 at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a concussion and was replaced by Matt Moore. Miami has not indicated yet who the starting quarterback will be for this game.

Tom Brady was brilliant again as he finished with a passer rating of 131.9. He completed 30 of 37 passes for 339 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. His favorite target was Danna Amendola who had 66 yards and a touchdown on 8 receptions. Brandin Cooks also had a nice game with 149 yards and a touchdown on 6 catches. Dion Lewis led the run game with 60 yards on 10 carries. On the season, the Patriots have averaged 29 points and 424 yards per game. Defensively, they forced 2 Raiders turnovers and sacked Derek Carr once. They allowed Oakland to rush for 109 yards on 21 carries, which is an average of 5.2 yards per run.

Jay Cutler struggled mightily before suffering the concussion last week. He completed just 6 of 12 passes for 83 and yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. Kenny Stills had a monster day catching 7 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. Jarvis Landry also had a nice game with a touchdown and 95 yards on 6 receptions. They gained 83 yards on the ground on 19 carries. Defensively, they weren’t able to force a turnover and sacked Ryan Fitzpatrick once. They did a good job against the run limiting Tampa Bay to just 53 yards on 24 carries. For the year, the Dolphins defense has allowed their opponents to score 25 points and gain 350 yards per game.

Even at 4-6 the Dolphins haven’t been eliminated from playoff contention and still have something to play for. They have a tough road ahead as they play New England twice in the next 3 weeks. New England will have home field advantage for this game and is favored by 16 points. They have gone 6-4 against the spread this season including 2-3 at home. Miami has gone 3-5-2 against the spread including 2-3 on the road. Both of the Patriots losses this season have come at home while Miami has lost their last 2 road games by the score of 85-21. Patriot’s receiver Chris Hogan injured his shoulder last week and did not practice Thursday. His status is questionable for this game.
