The 0-5 New York Giants will travel to Denver to take on the 3-1 Broncos in this week’s Sunday night matchup. The Broncos had a bye week last week while the winless Giants are coming off their third loss in a row by less than 6 points. They lost at home 27-22 to the Los Angeles Chargers who ended a nine game losing streak dating back to last year. To add injury to insult, three Giants wide receivers were placed on injured reserve after suffering injuries last week. Dwayne Harris Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall have all have been deemed out for this game. Denver last played on week 4 and beat the Oakland Raiders at home 16-10.
Denver’s Defense led the way against Oakland limiting the Raiders to just 24 rush yards on 15 carries. Justin Simmons made a huge interception at the Denver 8 yard line with just a few minutes left sealing the victory. They also had 3 sacks and 5 tackles for losses and have yet to allow a first quarter touchdown all season. Offensively they only scored 1 touchdown but did not turn the ball over and had success running the ball. Trevor Siemian completed 16 of 26 passes for 179 yards, 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions. His favorite target was A.J. Derby who had 4 catches for 75 yards and the team’s only touchdown. C.J. Anderson led a balanced running game with 20 carries for 95 yards.
Eli Manning threw an interception and lost a fumble on the Giants last 2 possessions last week. This allowed the Chargers to take the lead and end their last comeback try. He finished 21 for 36 with 2 touchdowns, 1 interception and 1 lost fumble. Odell Beckham Jr. was having a good game before his season ending injury. He was Eli’s favorite target with 5 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. They had success running the ball gaining 152 yards on 25 carries, which is an average of over 6 yards per rush. Orleans Darkwa led the team with 8 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, they weren’t able to sack Philip Rivers but did have an interception and 3 tackles for losses. Los Angeles had 7 different receivers catch a pass that gained at least 12 yards. The Giants also struggled against the rush allowing Melvin Gordon to gain 105 yards on 20 carries.
The Broncos will have home field advantage and are 11.5-point favorites in this game. Despite being winless, the Giants have gone 2-3 against the spread this season while Denver is 2-1-1. New York will be with out 3 starting wide receivers including their best player in Odell Beckham Jr. Denver has been able to rest all of their players as they are coming off the early season bye week. Denver’s offense averaged 33 points in its first 2 games but has scored only 32 points combined in their last 2 games.
