The 1-0 Green Bay Packers will travel to Atlanta to take on the 1-0 Falcons in this week two Sunday night contest. This will be the inaugural game inside the brand new Mercedes-Benz stadium as the Falcons have a new home. Both teams were led by their defense in their season opening victories. Atlanta shrugged off its Super Bowl loss with a 23-17 season opening win over the Bears on the road in Chicago. They stopped the Bears in the final minute when Chicago had first and five on the Falcons 5 yard line. Green Bay won a big NFC matchup at home against the Seahawks 17-9. They limited Seattle’s offense to just 3 field goals and 225 yards of total offense.
Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay to the win despite being shut out in the first half. He finished by completing 28 of 42 passes for 322 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He completed passes to 5 different receivers that gained at least 20 yards. His favorite target was Randall Cobb who caught 9 passes for 85 yards. Against the run they gave up an average of 5 yards per carry as Seattle gained 90 yards on 18 carries. Linebacker Ahmed Brooks suffered a concussion in the third quarter and is questionable for this game.
Atlanta shook off their brutal Super Bowl loss with Matt Ryan playing well in the season opener. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 321 yards, 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions. His favorite target was Mohamed Sanu who had 6 catches for 47 yards. Austin Hooper had a nice game with 2 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown. Julio Jones had just four catches for 66 yards. They struggled running the ball gaining just 64 yards on 23 carries, which is an average of just 2.8 yards per rush. Devonta Freeman led the team with 37 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Defensively, they sacked Mike Glennon 4 times and had 6 tackles for losses. They struggled defending the run allowing the Bears to gain 125 yards on just 19 carries.
