The 3-2 Washington Redskins will travel to Philadelphia to take on the 5-1 Eagles in this week’s Monday night matchup. Both teams are coming off close wins last week and this is an important battle in the NFC East. The Eagles won their 4th game in a row with a 28-23 Victory over the Carolina Panthers. Washington held on at home to beat the San Francisco 49ers 26-24. These two teams met on opening weekend in Washington and the Eagles won 30-17. A win this week by Philadelphia would give them a commanding 3 game lead in the division. They could also get some weapons back as right tackle Lane Johnson and running back Wendall Smallwood practiced this week and are questionable to return.

Carson Wentz had another solid performance last week finishing with a passer rating of 110. He completed 16 of 30 passes for 222 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Alshon Jeffrey was his favorite target catching 4 passes for 71 yards. Nelson Agholor also had a nice game with 55 receiving yards and a touchdown. They had success running the ball gaining 101 yards on 27 carries with LeGarrette Blount leading the team with 67 yards. On the season, the Eagles have averaged 17.5 points and 396 yards per game. Defensively, they intercepted Cam Newton 3 times and had 8 tackles for losses. They also sacked Newton twice and did a good job against the rush allowing the Panthers to gain just 80 yards on 25 carries.

Kirk Cousins threw to 9 different receivers last week with 8 of them catching passes that gained at least 11 yards. Overall Cousins completed 25 of 37 passes for 330 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. His favorite target was Chris Thompson who 4 catches for 105 yards. Thompson also led the running game with 33 yards on 16 carries. Overall, they struggled running the ball gaining just 94 yards on 33 carries. Defensively, they intercepted C.J. Beathard once and had 3 Sacks. They allowed San Francisco to average 4.3 yards per rush as they gained 85 yards on just 20 carries. On the season, their defense has allowed their opponents to average 390 yards and 23.4 points per game.

Philadelphia will have home field advantage for this game and is favored by 5 points. They easily beat Washington in week 1 on the road and have been playing well on both sides of the ball during their current 4 game win streak. The Eagles have gone 4-2 against the spread this season including 1-1-0 at home while the Redskins have gone 2-3 including 1-1-0 on the road. Injuries could be an issue for Washington as cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland and Josh Norman are both questionable for this game after suffering knee and rib injuries last week. Washington also placed kicker Dustin Hopkins on the Injured Reserve list and will be starting rookie Nick Rose who will be making his NFL debut.
