Nate Diaz (+350) vs. Georges St-Pierre (-500)

The long awaited, highly anticipated welterweight title bout between Georges St-Pierre (23-2) and Nate Diaz (26-8-1) has finally arrived. Following multiple attempts to get this match set up, Dana White is finally giving the fans what they want. While St-Pierre is fighting in just his second bout following ACL surgery, Diaz returns from suspension after testing positive for marijuana use. Despite the setbacks, both fighters are definitely ready to go.

Although St-Pierre is a strong favorite to take Diaz out, there is no doubt that this will be an entertaining fight. Diaz has been demanding to fight St-Pierre for years now. And while Johny Hendricks was next in line, St-Pierre called out Diaz instead, after the endless trash talk coming from Diaz’s corner.

They were set to fight in UFC 137, but St-Pierre was forced to sit out due to a knee injury, the same injury that ended up being his ACL tear. In turn, Diaz fought B.J. Penn. Following the win, Diaz screamed out at St-Pierre, who was watching in the front row, and yelled, “Where you at Georges? Where you at, mother [expletive]?” Needless to say, there is no shortage of history and animosity between these two rivals.

St-Pierre is making his eighth consecutive title defense. He has a reputation for strategically molding his game plan according to the weaknesses of his opponent. Although Diaz is one of the best boxers in MMA, he also has a very effective ground game. It’ll be interesting to see how often St-Pierre tries to take the fight to the ground. However, if they choose to be on their feet for most of the fight, Diaz might be able to take advantage. Out of his 26 victories, 13 have come of KO and eight coming from submission.

Many believe that St-Pierre will win via decision. If he takes Diaz to the ground for five rounds, Diaz will lose. The question for many isn’t whether St-Pierre will win, it’s how will he win?
