Cleveland Browns Betting | 2009 NFL Betting Guide

The 2009 Cleveland Browns enter the year with new head coach Eric Mangini and a turned over roster that had the 30th ranked scoring offense but returns the same two QBs, starting RB and star WR. The Cleveland "Jets" have six former Jets on defense as Mangini makes his imprint. The Browns are rebuilding again by trying to add depth and talent on the defensive side of the ball and bring in some receivers who can catch the ball on a consistent basis.

2008 Cleveland Browns Key Stats

2008 Record: 4-12 (4th, AFC North)
Offensive Team Rank: 26th Rushing, 31st Passing, T30th Scoring
Defensive Team Rank: 28th Rushing, 14th Passing, T16th Scoring
Top OFFENSIVE STAR: QB Brady Quinn (518 passing yards, 2 TD, 2 INT)
Top DEFENSIVE STAR: DT Shaun Rogers (76 tackles, 4.5 sacks)

2009 Cleveland Browns Offensive Outlook:
The offensive line returns a solid left side in Joe Thomas and Steinbach. QBs Quinn and Anderson are fighting out for the starting spot and may both get playing time during the rough NFL schedule where QBs seldom stay healthy long. The running game needs to hope that 31 year old Jamal Lewis found the fountain of youth to reverse his decline in production. The Browns added the most depth at WR with 2nd rounders WR Brian Robiskie and WR Mohamed Massaquoi along with WR M. Furrey. Browns can improve on their 30th ranked scoring offense by cutting in half their drops that killed many drives last year.

2009 Cleveland Browns Defensive Outlook:
The defense was horrible against the run in 2008 with the 28th ranked run defense and things look thin in 2009. The secondary is young with a lot of ex Jets in the LB corps. The defense has gotten younger but in the rebuilding process and could be another long year if the Browns have it tough against the run in the tough AFC North with Baltimore, Pittsburgh and an improved Bengals team.
