Denver Broncos Betting

The 2008 NFL Denver Broncos expect a breakout season from QB Jay Cutler and will see head coach Mike Shanahan entering his 15th season on the coaching hot seat. Sportsbooks expect the Broncos to have 8 regular season wins in a weak AFC West. The 7-9 2007 Broncos have missed the playoffs the last 2 seasons and have their 5th defensive coordinator in 5 years. Expectations are mile high in Denver to perform or Shanahan may be out at the end of the season.

Defensive Team Rank: 30th Rushing, 7th Passing, 28th Scoring

QB Jay Cutler (3497 passing yeard, 20 TDs, 14 INTs) has had just about every sport columnist predicting a breakout year in 2008. The Broncos had the 21st scoring offense last year brought in four new recievers add some targets for Cutler. WR Darrell Jackson, Samie Parker, Eddie Royal and Keary Colbert will fight out on the depth chart behind talented Brandon Marshall (102 receptions, 7 TDs). The Broncos offensive line has been known to produce those unknown 1,000 running backs but has lost some key talent in C Tom Nalen (knee injury) and retired LT Matt Lepsis . Offensive line coach Alex Gibbs how brought in the famous zone blocking left for Houston. The Broncos have some question marks on offense in the first couple of games in their running game behind some young talent on offensive line and new wide receivers.

The Broncos defense was horrible in 2007 with the worst run defense and 28th in scoring. New defensive coordinator Bob Slowik has some talent to work with starting in the secondary with CB Champ Bailey and Dre Bly. Emerging talent DE Elvis Dumervil (121/2 Sacks) will apply pressure and new DT Dewayne Robertson will provide chaos in the middle and try to plug up the run defense. The Broncos defense will be in for another long year if they cannot stop the run. The AFC West features 3 premier backs in LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson and Darren McFadden and the Broncos gave up a 187 yards per game in rushing in 2007.

NFL Betting Edge

The sharp bettors will be watching how well the run defense improves. Last years Totals crept up as the RB destroyed Denver's defense keeping the potent offensive from reaching its potential. See how the OL performs early in 2008 as it could struggle with new talent and a new coach leading to a worse running game.
