Houston Texans Betting
The 2008 NFL Houston Texans will be looking to improve upon their franchise best 8-8 2007 season. Sportsbooks expect the Texans will have a tough time to win 8 regular season games in a tough AFC South Division. The Texans need a healthy QB Matt Schaub, RB Ahman Green and WR Andre Johnson for a whole season to have a chance at a .500 record in 2008.

2007 Record: 8-8 (4th, AFC South)
Offensive Team Rank: 22nd Rushing, 11th Passing, T12th Scoring
Defensive Team Rank: 19th Rushing, 25th Passing, T22nd Scoring
The Houston Texans were a surprising 8-8 last year after winning their final 3 games. The Texans are still in the tough AFC South were the Colts, Jaguars and Titans all made the playoffs and Houston had only 1 division win. The biggest upgrade for the Houston offense is hiring OL coach/guru Alex Gibbs from the Broncos to teach his zone-blocking to the Texans. Houston ranked 22nd in rushing with a horrible 3.8 yards per rush. The running blocking and running back play need to improve for Houston to win more games. The Texans drafted speedy RB Steve Slaton who is moving up the depth chart with a weak preseason from Ahman Green and Chris Brown.
The Texans defense has some cornerstones with DE Mario Williams (59 Tk, 14 Sacks), Pro Bowl MLB DeMeco Ryans (127 Tk, 2 Sacks, 1 INT) and DT Amobi Okoye (32 Tk, 51/2 sacks). The secondary will miss CB Robinson recovering from a torn ACL until November and will be in for another long year of passing yards. LB Rosevelt Colvin will be expected to bring some veteran leadership after signing as a FA.
NFL Betting Edge
The Houston Texans shocked the spread last year with an 8-8 record. Look for the Texans to win a similar amount of games and some great dog lines when QB Schaub and WR Johnson healthy. The running game can really improve this year under OL Coach Alex Gibbs.
