Florida State vs. Gonzaga Betting Odds
The # 9 seeded Florida State Seminoles will take on the 4th seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Sweet Sixteen matchup for the West region on Thursday night. Gonzaga is coming off 2 easy wins against lower seeded teams to earn their spot in the Sweet Sixteen. Florida State on the other hand just upset the #1 seeded Xavier Muskateers 75-70. This was revenge for the Seminoles as they were defeated in the second round last year by Xavier. On the other hand, Gonzaga struggled to hold on their 90-84 victory over the 5th seeded Ohio State Buckeyes. Gonzaga stormed out to 15-0 lead in the first 5 minutes but were outscored 84 to 75 over the final 15 minutes. The Bulldogs will be looking to get back to the Championship like they did last year where they lost to North Carolina. The Seminoles offense had 5 different players score in double figured against Xavier including 3 reserves. Senior guard Brian Agnola led the team with 15 points while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Sophomore Trent Forrest also played well finishing with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. As a team, they shot 43 percent from the field and made 8 of their 23 three point attempts. They hit 19 of their 22 foul shots but did commit 14 turnovers. Defensively, they had 10 steals and forced Xavier into 18 turnovers. They were down 12 points with 10 minutes to go but rallied late to pull off the upset. Gonzaga got a huge game from Zach Norveil Jr who scored 28 points but also had 12 rebounds, 4 assists and just 1 turnover. They also outrebounded the Buckeyes 39 to 25. They shot the ball well making 53 percent of their shots including 9 of 22 from behind the arc. Two negatives for Gonzaga were that they lost the turnover battle 13 to 12 and made just 19 of their 31 free-throw attempts. Defensively, they had 4 blocks and 5 steals but Ohio State shot 45 percent from the field. The 84 points they gave up was the second highest allowed all season. Gonzaga enters this game as 5.5 point favorites and the hotter team as they have won their last 16 games. The Seminoles had lost 2 of their last 3 games prior to the start of the tournament. The Bulldogs have more experience and motivation from last years run to the Championship game but has failed to cover the spread in their first 2 games. Florida State has been inconsistent this season but has shown when things are going right they can beat anyone. Gonzaga Guard Killian Tillie has struggled so far scoring just 9 points in the 2 games combined as he averaged 13 per game during the regular season. If this game comes down to foul shooting it will be The Seminoles with the advantage as they made 88 percent against Xavier while the Bulldogs shot just 61 percent against the Buckeyes.
