Sports Betting Inches Along in Rhode Island

Sports Betting had a very robust debut in the state of Rhode Island during the 2018 Holiday season in November/December. One of the venues that started taking sports bets was the Twin River casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. This is a suburb of Providence. The Twin Rivers Casino recently announced that they will have self service kiosks for March Madness. The point of this would be to cut down on lines at the sports book teller windows.

This month saw the Rhode Island state legislature approve a bill that would legalize online sports betting. Certain Republicans opposed this bill because they felt the voters of Rhode Island should have to approve any sports betting expansion. This bill would allow bets to be placed in the state of Rhode Island via a mobile device app or website. Bettors would have to sign up first in person at either of the two Rhode Island Twin River casino locations.

The two sports books in Rhode Island are currently the only in the New England region. The NESN sports channel which broadcasts Red Sox games among other content recently started catering to sports gamblers with a sports betting show titled Follow The Money. All the signs point to sports betting having a strong future in Rhode Island.
